Well hello! Today in my Latin American History class we had to write poems for Day of the Dead. Now, I do not consider myself a poem person, but mine was totally the best. We each had to pick names out of a hat to determine which classmate we wrote about, and I chose Juan. He told me he likes politics, and since he was not specific about his political persuasion, he was a Democrat. Here is how Juan dies:
Of Juan and Politics…
One day while watching 24 Juan dreamt a political dream,
He yearned to make a difference on the Democratic scene.
His passion was for Womens’ Rights and minority representation,
So he waited out President Bush’s term until he could attend Hilary’s inauguration.
With the prowess of Jack Bauer and the determination of President Palmer,
He marched out to the voting booth and marked his choice with honor.
In January he bought his ticket and made his way to Washington,
And to both his manly and political delight the crowd was filled with braless women!
As the ceremony started the crowd became excited,
The pure animosity towards men made all the feminists delighted!
Juan was not quite sure in all the rage how he should react,
But all at once he knew as they started to attack!!
“Don’t let that man get away!” they cried and screamed aloud!
And that is how in one felled swoop Juan was trampled by the feminist crowd.
Hilary was ushered in that day, but not without a loss,
And Juan will be forever remembered as the man who died of feminist accost.
My class thoroughy enjoyed it, and I guess if you have to be a Democrat and die, this is a great way to go.*
My dad also pointed out that my blog desription at the top of the page about me being amish might offend some people out there, which I think is highly unlikely for two reasons. One, I don't think amish people read my blog because they don't use computers. Two, I like amish people and that saying is referencing the fact that now that I am Mary Webster, I sound amish to myself. This is compounded by the fact that my husband looks like he is amish because his beard is extremely full and luxurious. He will not shave. So that is the explanation behind my blog description, which is not good anymore since I had to explain it.
*After posting this and thinking about it for a while, I decided to clarify. I hope everyone knows that my comment above about democrats does not mean that I am, in contrast, a republican. I hate political parties, and do not consider myself of any political orientation. I recently went to vote in the state elections, which I did not want to do. I am completely uninformed about the issues the people who are running stand for, and I mainly don't care because their stupid political ad campaigns interrupt my viewing of Friends reruns. So, under extreme pressure from my mother, who is a republican, I went and voted. I felt horrible afterwards because I think it is better to not vote at all than to vote if you are uninformed, but then I felt bad about not doing my American duty. Ugh. However, it did make me feel better to tell her that I would just vote straight Democrat since I knew she was voting straight Republican, and that would cancel out my vote. This would solve my not-wanting-to-vote-but-feeling-like-I-must dilemma. Ha!
Let me be straight. In less than a month my father is about to embark on his second 14-month tour of duty to Iraq, just in time to miss Christmas. This will be the second Christmas he has missed because of this war. However, I know that while he is over there he is protecting the shit out of our country, and I am proud of him for doing what he must. In other issues, I love to fill up my gas-guzzling '97 Mustang at the Shell station, I think homosexual people should be able to do everything straight people do, I want to be able to get all the birth control I want, and I want to be able to teach kids the "under God" version of the Pledge of Alliegence when we put up our "Dr Pepper and the Military" exhibit at the Museum later this month. So those are some things I would fight for, but not by labeling myself as a "Republican" or a "Democrat." I love America and don't want to live anywhere else. Especially not Russia (Liz is the only person who can understand this sentiment as she is my only friend who took the Russian History class with me).
